Who is Abbeyfield House for?
Anyone over retirement age who no longer feels able to cope or does not wish to live alone at home. Particular consideration is given to local people or to those with local connections. Abbeyfield Paisley is an equal opportunities society and thus is open to all, regardless of race, gender, colour, religious beliefs and ethnic origin.

What services and amenities are provided in your rent?

Is short term respite accommodation available?
Yes you can stay at Abbeyfield for short time and have access all of the above facilities. Your care package, if you have one, can transfer with you for the period of your stay provided.

Can couples apply?
Yes. We can accommodate both single people and couples.

Can I get help with the Charges?
You may be entitled to claim Income Support or Housing Benefit when living in Abbeyfield Paisley. The level of your savings may affect your entitlement to benefit. The Finance Administrator, Citizens Advice Bureau and local offices of the Benefits Agency and Renfrewshire Council can provide advice on the best option for you. If you need help with paying the fees, you will be assessed by the local authority.

Will you need to know my financial circumstances?
The Society will need to ask how you will meet the charges and will request you to sign an agreement to pay. All personal information is always treated in the strictest confidence. You may wish to ask for help in claiming certain benefits. If not, your privacy will be respected.

What happens if I become ill?
Minor illnesses may be managed within the Abbeyfield House with the help and support of our management team. If you have to stay in hospital for any reason, it will be taken for granted that you will return to Abbeyfield when you are well enough. Support can be provided from the local authority social care department to assist with your care when you return.

What happens if I am unable to live independently in my room?
If you become very frail, it may be advisable to move into a Care Home or other similar facility. Should you require long-term nursing care, other arrangements may have to be made in consultation with you, your sponsor, family or friends and the local health authority.

Will I have to share a bathroom and toilet?
No, our rooms offer fully en suite facilities.

Is smoking allowed?
Smoking is not allowed within the building.

Can I bring my pet?
House pets considered on application.

What about a telephone and television?
All rooms in our buildings have access to a telephone point for you to install a telephone at your own expense. An aerial point is provided in each room to which you can connect your own television. You may wish to install a digital service and this, where possible, can be arranged at your expense.
